PICKERING

NORTH YORKSHIRE

01751 475354

No1 Burgate Pickering is the home of the Design Corner, an Interflora tied florist and fancy goods shop which has been active for many years now in two previous guises. Recently, the shop was taken over by Janet Howard and Shaun Haselden both of whom reside in Pickering. Janet is the florist with thirty years experience whilst Shaun is a photographer with forty years experience.
In 2008, Shaun converted the cellar at the shop into a fine art photography gallery which in 2009, has work by three photographers displayed and ready for purchase. The building in which the shop and hence the gallery are based is listed and is well over one hundred years old. During the summer months the gallery is open on a Sunday but closed on a Wednesday. Normal opening times are 09:00 to 17:00.

Please be aware that the gallery incorporated into the shop cannot accommodate wheelchairs or people with serious disabilities.

FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTISTS

Harry Atkinson

Harry is a local Pickering photographer who studied at Lady Lumley's and when leaving, travelled to York to study Fine Art. It is here that Harry gained a distinction in his specialised subject. For the future, Harry is to continue studying fine arts at Northumbria University. Harry frequently provides photographs for local newspapers.

As a student it is difficult for Harry to fund his passion for photography as easily as some of us do but his work is on show for all to see and Harry has succeeded in selling photographic images.

Rob Passey

Rob is based in Ilkeston Derbyshire but has family locally in Pickering. Rob's photography is based around a heavy industrial  heritage with a distinct yearning for yesteryear. One thing Rob does not do is digital preferring as he does a Mamiya RB67 medium format camera and black and white film. Rob is very definitely meticulous and it shows in his photographic pieces.

Rob's passions include playing the electric bass with his band around his home town, socialising with friends which includes a good curry and plenty of real ale.

Shaun Haselden

Shaun started his interest in photography at the age of ten years. He has spent a great many years studying photography both historically and technically. In 2003 he gained an LRPS with the Royal Photographic Society and has won many awards at that level. At the moment Shaun prefers to use a Nikon F5 camera with Ilford Pan F+ film. Lenses vary considerably but the favourite is a Tamron 17-35mm zoom.

Shaun's passion is music and Hi-Fi and to that end he loves single ended valve amplifiers and vinyl.
